Boules in Greystones
Wicklow County Council is set to receive €1,600,845 to develop seven community projects across the county under the Government’s Community Recognition Fund.
Welcoming the news, Greystones Councillor Lourda Scott said:" I am delighted that Greystones has received €145,000 from the Community Recognition Fund. After being contacted by members of the community I put forward a proposal for a playing ground for Pétanque and I am delighted that this was accepted. There was a plan to have 2 pistes in Burnaby Park and with the community Chess tables here these would make a great addition. Boules is an easy game to play and can be played by all ages and skills. Also, this game is accessible to people with mobility issues and those who cannot play impact sports. This activity would provide a social, mental, and physical benefit where everyone in the community, regardless of origin, can gather to enjoy a game. There is also funding allocated for Landscaping and Community Place making. I look forward to working with the Council to make improvements to our outdoor spaces.”
The Community Recognition Fund is a major initiative designed to specifically support communities across the country that are hosting people from Ukraine and other countries.
The funding has been allocated across all local authorities based on the number of new arrivals located there.
The Fund, administered by the Department of Rural and Community Development, follows an extensive consultation process with local authorities who submitted their individual list of projects for approval.
A total of €50m was awarded to Council projects across the country. This includes €1.6m for Wicklow County.
