Scott Takes Action to Secure Replacement for Aircoach
At a recent Greystones Municipal District meeting, Green Party Councillor Scott took decisive action by suspending standing orders to introduce an urgent motion, calling on the National Transport Authority (NTA) to implement an effective solution to the impending cancellation of the Aircoach service from Greystones and Bray to Dublin Airport.
The withdrawal of this service will cause significant disruption, impacting shift workers, and leisure travellers who rely on a direct, reliable, and time-efficient airport link. Some suggestions have been made proposing an alternative solution involving the extension of the Wexford Bus route, with an additional stop in Kilmacanogue.
However, Councillor Scott has firmly rejected this proposal, citing concerns about journey times and passenger safety. “This suggestion is simply not a viable solution. Expecting Bray and Greystones residents to travel to Kilmacanogue, often at unsocial hours, and wait in an isolated area for a long-distance bus is both impractical and unsafe. It will significantly increase travel time and still requires a car to get to the stop in Kilmacanogue to connect with the onward route.”
Instead, Scott is calling for the immediate reinstatement of a direct service linking Greystones and Bray to Dublin Airport. “We live in a rapidly growing town and residents deserve a safe, convenient, and direct public transport option to the airport. The current Aircoach route has been a vital link for our community, and its removal will have a hugely negative impact on those who rely on it for work and travel. I will continue to push for a proper replacement service that meets the needs of the people in our area. We agreed to write to the NTA at the recent Council meeting to express these concerns and to seek a viable solution. I encourage anyone who has been affected by this decision to do the same.”
