Progress on works for South Beach boardwalk accessibility

The new boardwalk on the South Beach has been a very welcome addition to the town. Unfortunately, if you are a wheelchair user, you cannot get off the boardwalk on the south end near the car park, but have to turn around. The issue here was that the regular flooding under the railway bridge arch had to be fixed first.

I spoke about addressing this with the access officer in Irish Rail in March, who I had previously worked with on improving access onto Kilcoole Beach.

Today I received confirmation from Irish Rail that works will be starting on Monday, April 22nd, making it finally wheelchair accessible at both ends.

The works will mean that access through the southern arch at The South Beach will be closed for the week.
