WCC to seek expressions of interest in community gardens
Wicklow County Council will seek expressions of interest in quarter one of this year from members of the public interested in establishing community gardens and allotments in their area.
In July of last year councillors voted in favour of a notice of motion from Cllr Lourda Scott stating: “That Wicklow County Council produces a county-wide strategy for the development of community gardens and allotments.”
The notice of motion was seconded by Cllr Peir Leonard and supported by Cllr Mary Kavanagh.
Cllr Scott sought an update on the status of the notice of motion passed six months ago.
She said: “I know that there had been an assessment of suitable land and I think the next step agreed was a call out to the public for expressions of interest, and I do know the strategy was referred to in the 3 Chief Executive's responses to the Climate Action Plan submissions, and I was just wondering where we are with that and when can we expect that call out to the public for expressions of interests to happen?”
Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council Emer O’Gorman said in reply: “I hope to go out to an expression of interest in Q1 this year. Hopefully by March we will be out with a consultation or an expression of interest with that to see where we are at.”
