Goal Mile: Greystones New Year’s Day run
Despite having just rung in the New Year 11 hours beforehand, there was a wonderful show of support for this year’s Greystones Goal Mile, which took place at the local Éire Óg grounds, on New Year’s Day.
The event sees tens of thousands of people run or walk a mile to raise funds for GOAL, a firm Christmas tradition for many across Ireland, and this year a new milestone of 41 years has been reached.
Organised by Councillor Lourda Scott, Triona Driscoll, Daniel English, Rob Costello and Lucianne Hughes, the team gave a special mention to those who travelled for the event this year.
"Thanks to you all for turning up and making today another great success. We never take for granted the wonderful community of Greystones who show up, help spread the word and contribute to causes such as the #GOALmile. A special shout out too to those who travelled from further afield to join us. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Greystones.
"Also, to everyone in the local community who help us spread the word each year, to Éire Óg Greystones for providing us with a great venue, and to all those who are providing goodies for after the event. We couldn’t do this each year without you…”
Donations for the Greystones Goal Mile will remain open until January 31 via the fundraising page on idonate.ie
