Secondary School Places - GCC update
I'm delighted to be able to share some positive news this morning on school places. The Department of Education have (finally) confirmed that there is a shortfall of 70 places. As Chair of Greystones Community College (GCC) Board of Management, I am really happy to say that we agreed at a Board meeting last night that we are in a position to offer an additional extra 48 places for September 2024. This was possible after communications from the Department and a meeting with the KWETB (school patron) where the Board was reassured that challenges around offering these places would be addressed. The Department will be visiting GCC this morning to provide assistance required in moving this forward.
This is great news and in particular great news for all the children who have been waiting in a limbo for their school place. Offers will start to go out as soon as possible and I know that they will be welcomed into the GCC school community with open arms.
I will continue to work to get movement on the permanent school building and am hopeful that the tender evaluation will be completed within weeks.
