Update on North Beach Access
Following a recent meeting with an engineer from Arup and the Council who provided a very detailed technical background to the erosion that we are seeing on the North Beach and the continued collapse of the ramp. Here are some key points:
Sispar will continue to do short term fixes on the current path to the North Beach as needed and will be out very soon to patch it up again. Keeping pedestrian access open here is a key priority.
Arup will be putting forward a plan for a long term solution to fix this ramp. No fixed date yet but predicted to start works by the end of the Summer and will take a few weeks to do.
Another round of beach nourishment to help mitigate erosion will be done again this year.
Overall erosion levels staying within the limits of what is expected, but we are seeing the most significant damage at the point where we walk onto the North beach
At some point the narrow gravel path to the outside of Darcy's Park fence along the cliff top will have to be closed off due to erosion, and people will be redirected in through the park instead.
The technical note with all the background to this will be put up onto https://greystonesharbour.ie/
Overall a positive meeting and I will make sure to follow up to make sure all planned works happen as soon as possible.
